SURFER Magazine was founded in 1960 by a surfer name John Severson who produced the first piecemeal issue of the magazine in his basement, with photos he had taken in his surf travels, and with captions that came to his mind as a surfer, all with an eye to capture the experience for his friends and fellow surfers.
Today, SURFER is a part of sports focused media group Action Sports Group, but still the magazine is produced by a group of surfers that offers readers a view from the inside of the lifestyle, of the culture, of the sport.
Magazines editor is Chris Mauro.
Company produces 11 issue of SURFER magazine per year + BIG ISSUE exclusive photo annual. SURFER also organizes events like Surfer Poll and Video Awards.
